Tungsten & Chromium carbide coatings

Tungsten & Chromium carbide coatingsTungsten and Chromium Carbide coatings are both materials used in thermal spraying applications. This two coatings types can be applied via HVOF or APS technology. Using HVOF, a combustion reaction between oxygen and hydrogen takes place allowing for the creation of high temperature flame that reaches 2200°C. Instead with APS a gas ionization occurs causing the creation of a very high temperature flame as high as 10000° C.

Materials are introduced and will melt, allowing them to be blasted out of the gun as a fine particle liquid spray. This can then be directed to the relevant product which will be coated evenly.

What Is Tungsten & Chromium Carbide?

Tungsten & Chromium Carbide are both considered to be inorganic carbon compounds. They both have high temperature melting points and need to be applied via the use of thermal heat spray. This process provides great coverage and maximizes the resistance capabilities, specifically to heat, corrosion, and wear and tear.

Combing these two elements takes the best properties of both of them and offers superior wear protection. They can also be used separately, depending on what surface you wish to cover. Between these two compounds, there is virtually nothing that can’t be coated and improved.

It should be noted that Chromium Carbide is better at resisting wear.

Why Use Tungsten & Chromium Carbide?

One of the biggest advantages of using Tungsten & Chromium Carbide coatings is that they are very good at protecting parts from normal wear and tear. In effect, they will help any product last longer.

That’s not the only benefit of using this coating, other properties

  • Less than 5% porosity
  • Very resistant to stress
  • Extremely good at bonding to a variety of surfaces
  • Provides protection from corrosion

If you’re looking to reduce wear and tear and protect your parts then it’s time to speak to Zocca Coatings. Check out what we have to offer that can help your project today!
